his walk to the summit of the most prominent peak in the south, is an excellent antidote for those bored with the sun, sea and sand holidays normally associated with holidays in the resorts of Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas. In a very short space of time you can be whisked away from the seaside to a more authentic Tenerife not usually seen by the average holidaymaker. The walk begins in the town of Arona and follows a lane to the village of Vento. From here the route leaves the road to follow a path across the Barranco Del Rey to begin the stiff climb up to the saddle between Conde and Centinela. Once on the saddle, there are tremendous views to the resorts below. Continuing, the path tracks across the southern face of the mountain as it continues to climb, eventually arriving at the summit plateau where it is a short stroll across a flower strewn meadow to the summit marker. From the top on a clear day there are tremendous views inland to Teide and west to the Teno Hills. The path is generally good but there are loose stones in places requiring care, particularly on the descent.
