Roque Bermejo

T his hike is a superb trip to the most northerly tip of the island in the Anaga Mountains. Beginning in the pretty, isolated village of Chamorga the route follows a path to the summit ridge of Montana Tafada, from where their are fantastic views down to the tiny hamlet of Roque Bermejo. This is the destination of the outward journey and is even more isolated and remote than Chamorga, being accessible only on foot or by boat. From Montana Tafada, a path is followed down to the Faro de Anaga lighthouse where a dirt road leads down into the village. This is a good place for a rest and a picnic and an opportunity to explore the jumble of cottages on the shoreline with it's sadly dilapidated chapel and tiny harbour. The return route is all uphill as it follows the beautiful Barranco de Roque Bermejo back to Chamorga. Good paths throughout although some can be a little slippery in damp conditions.
