his walk in the upper Orotava Valley is one of Tenerife's 'classics' and is therefore fairly well walked, so solitude can be at a premium but this aside, the rewards are wonderful as the route winds through pine forests, past endemic plant life giving wonderful views through the trees to the majestic summit of Teide. The route includes some fairly steep climbing and a short section that may unnerve anyone suffering from vertigo although there is a handrail at this point to give confidence. Although the route is fairly strenuous, it is mostly on good firm paths and tracks.
