This page is intended to give a little information on my personal background for anyone who may be interested. My name is Gary and I live with my wife Ann in the south of Tenerife. Although we moved here from Milton Keynes in the UK, I am originally from Luton in Bedfordshire and some of my family still live in the town. I originally became interested in walking almost by accident. I had tried other forms of exercise in an effort to keep fit but had found them boring. I eventually started walking in the local countryside just outside of Luton and as the walks became longer and my interest grew, I began to investigate more interesting and exotic locations. I have since come to love walking and have in the past taken part in challenge walks of up to 30 miles in a day, wild camping trips in the Scottish Highlands and multi-day hikes such as a solo traverse of the Coast to Coast walk across England as well as a similar trip along the Southern Upland Way in Scotland. My experiences on both of these long-distance paths are featured at the bottom of this page, along with details of a trip led by myself along The Wainwright Memorial Walk in the Lake District. Beside walking alone and with my wife Ann, when we lived in the UK, we were members of The Ramblers Association and walked with the local group in Milton Keynes, which Ann and myself joined in 1996. As well as editing the groups newsletter, I regularly led walks and we both joined in with the regular organised weekends away. These took us all over the country and we have walked in most of the more 'classic' walking areas such as The Lake District and the The Peak District, among others. Personally, one of my favourite areas for walking in the UK is The Chilterns. This was the area where I first started 'serious' walking, partly because of the area's close proximity to my home, but also because I still find it a wonderful destination to walk in. We have long had a love of Tenerife and in January of this year we moved permanently to the island. We love the climate which is superb all year round and the island is blessed with wonderful mountain scenery. I have in the past organised a number of successful group trips for walkers in Tenerife and Gran Canaria and my love of walking and Tenerife has led me to set-up the programme of public walks in the south of the island using public transport as well as a service for private groups or walking clubs covering the whole island. The private group service is totally flexible to enable you to design a walking holiday to suit you and your friends by choosing from a varied range of walks suitable for all abilities. Since living here, I have taken many walkers out exploring Tenerife and met and made friends with many people, some of whose comments you can find here. I hope you can join me on a walk at some point in the future so that I can share with you all of the wonderful places I have found whilst walking on this beautiful island.
